Nightwish Fans Need to Simmer Down About Tuomas Holopainen Already

This article was written entirely for my own purposes and as a personal vent, to provide myself and others of similar minds with some catharsis re: the toxic hate that Nightwish “fans” spew on the internet. It is not the sort of article I usually write, nor that I really condone. As such, I told myself that as soon as I catch wind of this article showing up on Reddit, I’ll be taking it down. As of today, that day has already come.
If you’re still wondering what it was all about, there were a few points that I was making amidst my rage shouting, which were:
Tuomas Holopainen was not the mastermind behind this 30th anniversary release. That would be the label, so if you have a beef with it, it’s content, who’s being represented, etc., take it up with Nuclear Blast. But regardless, he is obliged to promote the release as “the guy behind the band.” None of you care what the label or management think, or else they’d be the ones doing the promo interviews.
Floor’s interview, when she said that nothing was planned, was pre-embargo. She probably wasn’t allowed to talk about anything at the time, and even if she could have, she wouldn’t have had anything official to announce then, re: album releases or touring. There’s a flow to the roll-out for promotion and releases, especially broadly across main bands and side projects.
Differences in how people look and behave and phrase things might be cultural, so if you have no experience with the countries these people come from, stop judging the way they speak or how they talk about things. Finns are a bit emotionless and introverted, Dutch people are blunt and straightforward (culturally, not individually, of course). Please consider cultural differences in expression before you start going down a parasocial wormhole of why someone said something the way they said it.
Tuomas is not an egomaniac. He is easily one of the most down-to-earth and humble artists in this country and the metal scene in general. I’ve met many of the big names in the metal scene from their generation, and it’s not hard to tell who the egomaniacs are. He’s not one of them. He’s just a poet and some of you need to stop associating poetry with pretense.
Floor has a solo album coming out, so talking about Nightwish in any capacity would be detrimental from a marketing perspective during interviews.
