“Elegy for a Lost Soul”

A Sad Memory of My Cubawan

Sometimes we mourn for those who still draw breath
For even the living can face partial death
For a moment we shared something deeper than space
But then you were gone from me without a trace
Deep down I know we transcended the norm
But in playing with fire we both lost our form
My love for you defies all understanding
You came so close but then choked on the landing
This world has made you a tormented soul
Who tore up my heart, with destruction your goal
I wish we had followed where our path could have led
But after all we survived, the one I love seems dead
There are so many things I wish I could still tell
Instead I light this candle and bid you farewell…

This poem is infused with a lot of thoughtful emotionality and adheres to a clever pattern of end rhyme.
